但其实

牛津和剑桥本是一根藤上的两个娃

先有的牛津

1201年任命第一任校长

1248年大学正式得到国王认可

可是在1209年

大学与当地居民发生冲突

一部分师生被居民提刀追杀

不得不拼命逃窜

一直逃到150公里外才敢停

150公里外的这个小镇叫做剑桥

师生们安顿下来之后

也不会干别的

只好创立了一个新学校

也就是剑桥大学

在相当长一段时间里

英国只有牛津剑桥这两所大学

任何时候搞排名

第一二名基本上都是这俩

有时你第一，有时我第一

“仇恨”的种子就这样生根发芽

二者被捆绑称为“牛剑”（Oxbridge）

相爱相杀800年

拼学术、比资质、争排名、秀校友

每年还搞个百年传统掐架盛事——赛艇大赛

据说剑桥师生从不直呼“牛津Oxford”其名

每次都用“the other place/school”来指代

Cambridge: I oppose the motion on the grounds thatCambridge is quite clearly Britain's best university. The Cambridge UniversityPress is the oldest printer and publisher in the world, and the biggestacademic press.

剑桥：我反对此项动议，理由如下：因为显然剑桥大学才是全英国最棒的大学。剑桥大学出版社，为世上现存最古老历史最悠久的出版社，也是全世界最大的学术出版社。

Oxford: Founded in the 11th century, Oxford wasthe first university of Britain.

Cambridge: And... then they built a better one.

Oxford: Oxford has 11 libraries, and over 11million volumes housed on 120 miles of shelving, which is why our Englishdictionary is the dictionary the world uses. We have the world's oldestuniversity museum, and 47 Nobel Prize winners have studied or taught at Oxford.
